Biodegradable polymeric nanoparticles are widely recognized as efficacious drug delivery vehicles.Yet, the rapid recognition and clearance of intravenously injected nanoparticles by macrophages in the tissues can dramatically reduce both the nanoparticle half-life and delivery to the diseased tissue. Here, we show the surface engineering of polylactic acid nanoparticles (PLA-NPs) by coating cell membrane mimetic copolymers to evade macrophage recognition.
