This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of different grain-dregs dietary energy density on growth performance and intramuscular fat deposition in beef cattle.Thirty finishing Simmental cross cattle (Simmental × local cattle) with body weight (382.6 ± 30.5kg) were selected and randomly assigned into 3 dietary treatment groups with 10 cattles in each.The 3 treatments were:(1)high energy group(HE, 6.64 MJ/kg), with 20% of distilled grain, (2)medium energy group(ME, 6.31MJ/kg), with 10% sweet potato slag substitute 10% of distilled grain (3) low energy group(LE,5.98MJ/kg), with 20% sweet potato slag.The results showed that there was no significant difference among the three treatments for the cattle growth performance.Compared with LE group, HE group increased average daily gain by 10.79%, increased feed conversion efficiency by 6.32%.As the dietary energy density increased, peroxisome proliferator activated receptor γ (PPARγ) mRNA concentration increased, while the heart fatty acid-binding proteins(H-FABP) mRNA concentration decreased(P<0.05).While the dietary energy density increased, IMF of ME group and HE group increased by 47.5%(P<0.05) and 100%(P<0.01), compared with LE group, respectively.In conclusion,high energy density diet increase PPARγ mRNA concentration and decrease H-FABP mRNA concentration, and hence increase IMF content.
