Glycosylation is a common tailoring reaction in natural product biosynthesis.In most cases, the sugar moiety is necessary for exerting their biological activities.Combinatorial biosynthesis is shown to be a powerful tool to engineer the glycosylation of natural products.A large number of new glycosylated products were generated, e.g., erythromycin, daunorubicin and mithramycin,and some of them showed enhanced bioactivity.These new glycosyl-diversified products offer new opportunities for drug development.
