Cucumber vein yellowing virus (CVYV) (genus Ipomovirus,family Potyviridae) causes disease in cucurbit species,characterised as stunted growth of the plants and vein clearing of the leaves.Virions consist of filamentous particles and a single-stranded,positive sense RNA genome and are transmitted by the whitefly Bemisia tabaci in a semipersistent manner.CYSDV (genus Crinivirus,family Closteroviridae) produces interveinal chlorosis and stiffness or brittleness of the lower leaves,resembling early senescence and nutritional deficiencies in cucurbits.This virus is also transmitted in a semipersistent,non-circulative manner by whiteflies.CVYV and CYSDV,which are included in the EPPO A2 Action List of pathogens,have become a limiting factor of cucumber production in the southeast of Spain.
