The site-specific recombination systems Cre/lox and FLP/frt are widely used for conditional gene modification in mice.Moreover the high level of sophistication and complexity achieved in the design and generation of genetically modified mouse models often demands the use of both recombination systems in the same mouse strain providing that expression and/or activation of the corresponding recombinases is under the control of independent regulatory mechanisms.
