Chem-Mod International, LLC is commercializing its patented multi-emissions reduction technology that includes mercury (Hg) removal technology. The Chem-Mod process utilizes a liquid oxidation agent and a non-carbon-based sorbent to remove Hg from coal-fired power plant stacks. The liquid (MerSorb) is applied to the coal as it moves through the feeder on its way to the pulverizer and is introduced through the burners. The solid sorbent (S-Sorb) also may be added to the feeders or injected into the boiler downstream of the combustion zone.It provides the surface required to capture and hold the oxidized Hg in a ceramic matrix consisting of aluminosilicates.Benefits of the technology include increased Hg and sulfur capture, decreased NOx emissions, and capture of other heavy metal species.
