The big and fast development of the medical linear accelerator(LA)technology in the last 10 years,that brings a great clinical achievements by using SBRT(SRS),especially for NSCLC treatment.The modern medical LA has offered us very advanced technologies such as 5 highs(high output dose rate,high speed delivery,high resolution MLC leaves,high dose gradient on the edge of target,high precision isocenter).Compare the single beam LA(such as C-arm and Ring based LA with the γ-knife),the key difference between them is the dose rate in the target:for the former the dose rate in target is always lower than in the tissue passing by,but for the later the dose rate in target is always higher than in the tissue passing by as it uses converging beams.Therefore the next generation LA will be using multi-beams instead one beam that will bring us 6 highs that integrates the functions of both modern LA and modern γ-knife.A next generation LA called TCFB(three crossing firing beam)being developed in China now will not only integrate all functions of single beam LA and γ-knife,but also offer us to do real-time IGRT and DGRT without bringing any extradoses to the patients.
