Hollow nanostructures are promising as electrode materials for lithium-ion batteries(LIBs).We have employed hydrothermal/solvothermal methods to synthesize hollow nanostructures of different metal oxide/sulfide materials, and investigated their electrochemical properties in lithium-ion batteries and supercapacitors. In this talk, I will briefly discuss the synthesis and electrochemical properties of hollow nanostructures of metal oxides/sulfides. We have been able to synthesize different hollow nanostructures of many binary metal oxides such as SnO2, Fe2O3 and Fe3O4, and more recently mixed transition metal oxides/sulfides such as NiCo2O4 and NiCo2S4.
