Stimulation of peripheral nerves increases pain threshold.However, chronic pressure stimulation of the sciatic nerve is associated with sciatica and other pain pathologies.We recently found acute pressure block of the sciatic nerve provide immediate short-term pain relief from various pathologies.The method is simple, and can be used immediately at the onset of pain.This talk will discuss this new analgesic method and the potential mechanism involved.
