A wide range of information is desired for optimizing chemical synthesis processes.Liquid chromatography is one tool that is useful for measuring the various components of the mixture.During the last decade, substantial improvements have been made in improving the resolution, sensitivity, and speed. But these advances have not been integrated into process analytical technology. An in depth collaboration between instrument development scientists and Process engineers identified specific obstacles to the implementation of the required data analysis. While the LC data contained the required information, the existing technology did not provide information quickly enough to optimize the yield of the process. The causes of this gap were defined as sample tracking paperwork, sample manipulation for analysis, and sample reporting in addition to the time for physical transport to the laboratory.
