Computational Investigation on 2D A5B4O15 Perovskites as Visible-Light Water-Splitting Photocatalyst

As a promising route to address energy and environment related issues,tremendous attention has been attracted for photocatalytic water splitting.[1] However,current photocatalytic systems are still not economical due to the lack of high efficiency photocatalysts.[2] In this work,we investigated a series of A5B4O15(A=Ca,Sr,Ba; B=V,Nb,Ta)layered perovskite materials through density functional theory computations.We found that band gap modulation can be achieved by changing B-site cations,and band edge position can be tuned though A-site cation substitution.In light of these analyses,we further predict that Ca5V4O15 nanosheet can be a promising visible-light photocatalyst for water splitting.[3]
