Magnesium chelatase is a complex protein encode by three genes BchH.BchI and BchD in anoxygenic photosynthetic bacteria[1].The BchI and BchD subunits both have AAA+ domains which combine to form a double hexameric ring “motor” complex. This AAA+ complex has the large BchH subunit as substrate and is thought to catalyze an ATP dependent large conformational change in BchH to effect magnesium insertion into protoporphyrin Ⅸ[2].
