The term extrusion refers to a family of continuous processing techniques in which materials are forced through constrained spaces often under mixing and high shear conditions, normally along modulated screws.1 We have found that this is an efficient technique for the mechanochemical manufacture of MOFs,2 organic compounds, inorganic complexes and more recently Deep Eutectic Solvents(DES).Here we present a series of studies regarding the fundamental aspects of twin screw extrusion and how the information obtained can be applied to optimise this technique.
