  The cell elongation and division characteristics of Lysinibacillus sp.strain GY32 was determined by time-lapse microscopy during its growth cycle.After spore germination and outgrowth, cells elongated and form filaments before they divided.These filamentous cells could become more than hundred microns at early exponential phase.And then, filaments divided into elongated rods and finally rods.Electron microscopy and fluorescence microscopy showed the filaments without septum, including several nuclear regions.Statistical analysis revealed that cells with different length have different elongation rate and they were linear relationship.The result was in good agreement with a theoretical model that had been reported: cell size increased with increasing pole age.However, the daughter cells were often not of equal length and the interval between cell division was variation.The unique cell shape changed from spores to filaments to rods cycle had not been found in any other bacteria.The present study suggested a novel strategy of cell division even in different growth phase in a single bacterial cell.
