The total mercury and effective state mercury in No 1-5 oxidation pond sediment in Yaer Lake were measured by using Atomic Fluorescence Spectrometry.Total mercury were extracted by using aqua regia digestion system,while effective mercury selected HCl as an extraction agent with the leachate of the mercury concentration.The results showed that: the total mercury concentrations in surface sediments were decreased from No 1 to No 5 oxidation pond in order,with the maximum in No 1 oxidation pond,18.2 mg?kg-1(standard limit of 1.00 mg?kg-1).The total mercury concentrations in surface sediment from No 5 oxidation pond were under the standard limit.Compared with 2003 pre-dredging data,total mercury in surface sediments was not significantly changed.As the accumulation of sludge dredging after rain washed into the lake again,the surface sediments from No 1-4 oxidation pond need further clear silt,and off-site disposal can prevent recontamination.Total mercury and effective state mercury were positively correlated(R: 0.953),which provide the original data of the migration of mercury in sediments.
