Giant hydropower leap has been happening in Songhua river basin in next decades, but its negative effects on riverine ecosystems by blocking rivers and regulating flow have not been quantified. Fishes, especially migratory fishes, act as top trophic species in river ecosystems and are more vulnerable than other species to hydropower development.
