The recent development in the metal-to-metal quintuple bonding has reinvigorated the metal-metal multiple bonding chemistry,1 since Cotton and co-workers characterized the first quadruple bonded rhenium dimer [Re2C18]2-50 years ago.2 The quintuple bonded dinuclear complexes feature low-coordinate metal centers, rendering them highly reactive.
