Protective effect of GSS on ischemia/reperfusion brain injury through potenting the brain anti-oxida

  To explore the protective effects of genistein sulfonate sodium (GSS) on ischemia/reperfusion (I/R)brain injury, rat middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) animal model was used.The rats were treated with NS,1 mg/kg and 2 mg/kg GSS after MCAO, respectively.The cerebral tissue was stained by triphenyltetrazolium chloride (TTC).The activities of total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC), catalase (CAT), superoxide dismutase (SOD),lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), the level of malondialdehyde (MDA) in serum or brain tissue were detected.Our results show that GSS decrease the volume of infarction, activity of LDH in serum and MDA level in cerebral tissue which increase in MCAO rats, and enhance the activities of T-AOC, CAT,SOD, LDH and GSH-Px in cerebral tissue which reduce in MCAO rats.These suggest that GSS has protective effects on brain I/R injury by potentiating the anti-oxidant capacity.
