Liver is the central metabolic organ and hepatocytes play a critical role in nutrient homeostasis. The cholesterol metabolism disorder predicts a higher risk of metabolic syndrome. How the cholesterol metabolism interfaces with long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) is largely un-elucidated, particularly the specific molecular mechanism. Here, we identified a novel lncRNA named lnc-HC (GenBank accession No.KP899824) actively participating in the regulation circuit for cholesterol metabolism. In the downstream pathway, lnc-HC promoted the cholesterol catabolism within hepatocytes through the physical interaction with hnRNPA2B 1, a RNA binding protein functioning in RNA splicing.
