Gating of synthetic nanofluidic devices[1-2] at high temperature remains a challenge.Herein,we demonstrate a thermo-responsive solid-state nanoporous membrane that works in ionic liquid-based electrolyte.The smart membrane can be irreversibly turned off at 120-150oC [3]by the conformational transition of the chemically-modified poly(benzyl methacrylate) brushes as macromolecular nanoactuators.The polymer/ionic liquid/nanopore ternary system may find potential use as a smart separator, enhancing the safety of liquid electrolyte energy devices.
