To study the sectional anatomy of the hypoglossal nerve using MRI correlated with cryosectional sections for providing anatomic data for neurosurgery.MR images were obtained from 34 adult volunteers examined with 3D-SPACE sequences, and 69 sets of serial cryosections of adult cadaver heads were prepared.Compared with the cryosectional specimens, the location, adjacent structures and recognition landmarks of the hypoglossal nerve were observed in the MR images.
