Dickeya zeae (D.zeae) is the causal agent of devastating rice foot rot disease, which is an major concern of the agricultural industry in rice planting countries and regions.Cyclic di-GMP (c-diGMP) is an universal second messenger which regulates a range of important biological function in many bacterial pathogens, including biofilm formation, swarming motility and virulence factors production.Opposing activities of diguanylatecyclases (DGCs) and phosphodiesterases (PDEs) control c-diGMP homeostasis in the cell. Many microbes employ large number of genes encoding DGCs and PDEs that are predicted to be part of c-di-GMP signaling networks. However, the function of cyclic di-GMP in D.zeae and its modulation of virulenceremain largely understood.
