Firstly,the variation of cylinder-to-cylinder in internal combustion engine has been proved to be very important in improvement of engine comprehensive performance. In order to study the characteristics of multi-cylinder diesel engine, a real-time, multi-channel combustion analyzer that can measure and analyze combustion processes is developed.Based on a personal computer, a multi-channel pressure measurement system was established by combining hardware technology and software tools. The distinct functions, such as real time collection of cylinder pressure data, signal of top dead center and signal of crank speed, analysis of combustion condition of diesel engine with multi-cylinder and rapid process of the data, can be realized by the system after the noises from cylinder pressure signals are processed.Using transient data acquisition and combustion process analysis functions, the cycle variation characters and differences of cylinder-to-cylinder of multi-cylinder diesel engine parameter, such as maximum pressure, maximum pressure rise rate, IMEP and ignition timing, total heat discharge were investigated for details. It could provide valuable reference to multi-cylinder diesel engine combustion analysis.
