My present essay takes as its yardstick the paralell pricinple of comparative literature and attempts an interillumination of the differing working dynamics of two poetic traditions.
Part one of this essay probes into the root conceptions of the Chinese monistic. Part two traces the origins of the Chinese and the British concepts of imagery. Part three deals with the two important evolutionary phases of landscape imagery in Chinese classical poetry.
