Based on interviews, interaction and follow-up surveys of 21 patients with esophageal cancer at Z Hospital, G City, their experience of illness and treatment of esophageal cancer patients, especially their experience before and after esophageal cancer resection, And the effects of treatment on the patient’s body, self and identity. Esophageal cancer resection as a treatment not only can not cure patients’ physical and mental pain, but sometimes even further damages the body and life course of the patient. Cancer treatment not only needs to treat the patient’s body as a whole, but also understand the close relationship between physical change and self and identity. Finally, we propose the change of the medical model from “taking the body as the center” to “taking the patient as the center”.
