不久前。江苏南通专区京剧院一团到湖北、湖南旅行公演。先后在武汉、长沙演出了連台本戏《火烧紅莲寺》。由于这个戏內容不健康,在群众中产生了不良的影响,引起了观众的不满,因而在武汉和长沙都及时地受到了輿論界的批評。但是也有个别人不同意对这个戏的批評意見,于是便展开了爭論。从9月11日开始,到本月4日为止,《湖北日报》《新湖南报》共发表了評論文章十五篇,除了集中地討論了《火烧紅遵寺》究竟是一出什么样的戏以外,还涉及到戏曲的教育作用、生活真实与艺术真实、怎样看待传統剧目的继承和革新、怎样看待連台本戏的艺术形式以及观众的欣賞心理等問题,討論現在还沒有完全結束。这里仅就已发表的文章中的重要論点綜述如下:
