Objective To explore the status quo and new trends of community-based voluntary blood donation. Methods According to the data of whole blood donation in Guangzhou from 2012 to 2014, the author analyzed the changes of blood donation and blood donation in the streets and groups, focusing on the differences between colleges and non-tertiary institutions. Results In 2013, total blood donation (151 858) and total blood donation (254 251 U) were decreased (-7.72% and -10.07%), blood donation (163 123) and blood donation (210914 U) (3.05% and 4.51% respectively). In contrast, the number of blood donors (145 643) and blood donation (194 540 U) declined in groups (-10.72% and -7.76%) in 2014 on the contrary. In 2014, the number of blood donations (93 888) and blood donation (126 046 U) in non-tertiary institutions were significantly decreased (-13.44% and -13.01%), while those in tertiary institutions (51 755) decreased by -5.32% , But blood donation (68 494 U) increased (3.74%) as a result of the 400 m L blood donation rate (27.72%) decreased in non-tertiary institutions after the introduction of 300 m L of blood in community units, Blood donation rates increased significantly at 300 m L (32.28%) and 400 m L (16.30%). Conclusion There are still many challenges facing the recruitment and donation of blood donors by the unit groups. The blood collection and supply organizations must keep pace with the times and innovate the methods of voluntary blood donation and propaganda so that the unpaid blood donation can be steadily developed.
