This paper reexamined the tragedy of Tess, the heroine of Tess of Durbevilles from the perspective of Marxism by analyz-ing the components of Victorian superstructure, namely, law, double-standard morality and biased religion, which goved strictly by Victorian ideology. The tragic fate of Tess is an inevitability under the destructive bourgeois ideology, and it is the fate of weak proletariat under the hegemony of bourgeoisie ideology. And this is different from the fatalism attribution of Tesstragic fate and the limitation of regarding Tesstragedy as the tragedy of personal destiny.
