It was 1)GMA to the rescue when one California man’s laptop was stolen. Armed with pictures of the 2)culprit using his computer, Joshua Kaufman, you know, he went to the police, but he also went to us in a high-tech 3)sting. Take a look.
Joshua Kaufman had his laptop stolen. He got angry, really angry, especially when the tracking software he’d installed on it kept 4)mocking him, 5)taunting him, transmitting pictures from the stolen machine. 6)Clear as day, the software showed someone staring into Joshua’s computer, e-mailing, falling asleep watching YouTube, and, yikes, web-surfing in bed.
What the guy wasn’t doing was worrying about the police. You would think that if you caught the guy red-handed, stealing your stuff, you had photos of him, knew where he lived, even where he worked, that the cops would say, “Hey, thanks for the 7)freebie,” and go pick him up, right? But when Josh followed up…
Joshua: …they had a long cue of people they had to deal with and they just wouldn’t be able to get to me.
He waited…two months: but nothing.
Joshua: And then I thought, well, why not create a blog?
Joshua’s blog and his weird, bad guy’s slide show went 8)viral.
Joshua: It exploded on Twitter and on Facebook and on Tumblr.
As one man’s lonely cries for justice went unanswered, the comments poured in.
Joshua: They were frustrated and people were angry.
But justice delayed is not justice denied.
Joshua: I had police officers who were on the case immediately.
Muthanna Aldebashi was arrested and charged with possession of stolen property. Case closed.
The lesson?
Joshua: Don’t steal from the 9)geeks.
