Objective To investigate the effects of maternal gestational hypertension (HDP) on the brain structure and electrophysiology in neonates. Methods Twenty-three newborns (control group) and 33 newborn infants (observation group) delivered by healthy mothers hospitalized in our hospital from June 2006 to June 2009 were enrolled. One week after birth, EEG, EEG (BEAM), cranial ultrasound or magnetic resonance imaging. There was no significant difference in gender, gestational age, birth weight and Apgar score between the two groups. EEG and BEAM inspections use an 8-lead recording electrode, including Fp1, Fp2, C3, C4, T3, T4, O1 and O2. The EEG / BEAM test results were divided into normal range, mild abnormality, moderate abnormality, severe abnormality. The effect of HDP on brain structure and electrophysiology in neonates was analyzed using SAS6.12 software. Results In the observation group, 19 cases had brain injury, while 6 cases in the control group had brain injury. The difference between the two groups was statistically significant (P = 0.0197). There were 12 cases of abnormal EEG in observation group and 1 case of abnormal EEG in control group. The difference between the two groups was statistically significant (P = 0.0052). In the observation group, there were 12 cases of abnormal BEAM and 1 case of abnormal BEAM in the control group. The difference between the two groups was statistically significant (P = 0.0052). Conclusions HDP has a significant effect on neonatal brain structure and electrophysiology.
