Recently, the team of Zhou Yijun, plant protection institute of Jiangsu Academy of Agricultural Sciences made great progress in the research on rice stripe blight. The team discovered the mechanism of rice streak virus (RSV) affecting the hatching rate of the Laodelphax striatellus. Planthopper-transmitted rice stripe virus has caused serious damage to rice production in Jiangsu. Through genetic crosses, the team found that the virulence of the offspring of Laodelphax striatellus was dependent on the virulence of the female parent and the virus had an adverse effect on the hatchability of the offspring of Laodelphax striatellus.
