The Convention for the Protection of World Cultural and Natural Heritage signed in 1972 by the member countries of UNESCO stipulates that the entries listed in the World Heritage List shall have the following characteristics: representing an exclusive artistic achievement and being a creative talented masterpiece; and being able to provide unique or at least special evidence for a tradition of an existing or vanished civilization or culture.
