Objective To study the expression of p53 and Id2 protein in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma and its significance. Methods The expressions of P53 and Id2 in 122 cases of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma and 90 cases of adjacent normal tissues were detected by immunohistochemical SP method and image analysis technique. Results The expression levels of P53 and Id2 in 122 cases of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma were significantly higher than those in normal tissues (p <0.01). There was no significant correlation between the expression of P53 and the gender, age and differentiation degree of the patients (p> 0.05), but it was correlated with the depth of invasion and lymph node metastasis (p <0.05). The expression of Id2 correlated with the gender, There was no significant correlation between age and lymph node metastasis (p> 0.05), but negatively correlated with tumor differentiation (p <0.05) and positive correlation with tumor invasion depth (p <0.05). Conclusion The high expression of P53 and Id2 in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma may be used as a potential indicator to evaluate the biological behavior of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma.
