Evaluating the effect of calcium antagonists on vascular smooth muscle plays an important role in understanding the therapeutic properties of calcium antagonists. Unfortunately, the experimental results are significantly affected by the different methods used, including vessel type and animal species. The purpose of this study is to observe the effect of changing experimental conditions (such as solution, experimental protocol, etc.) on the calcium antagonistic activity of the same specimen. The authors compared three methods commonly used to study calcium antagonists because calcium antagonists were very sensitive to the depolarization of rabbit aortic rings induced by KCl, and KCl was used in all three experiments to cause contractions of the arterial rings.
