George Pelec was a famous writer who was active in the French literary arena in the 1960s. France in the 1960s was the period when the consumer society peaked in France and consumption gradually became the center of the entire capitalist social system. Perek’s novel “Things” captures the important theme of consumer society. The Flowing Banquet, a collection of memoirs Hemingway completed in 1960, recalls the 1921-1926 life in Paris. This article hopes to make a comparison between these two works and find out the difference between Paris in the 1920s and Paris in the 1960s and the differences in the times and concepts reflected in the two works. Thus highlighting the theme of Perek’s novels - “Sociology” in Parisian consumer society in the 1960s.
