[Securities] China plans to expand QDII investment scale In December 2007, Wei Benhua, deputy director of China’s State Administration of Foreign Exchange, said that in 2008, the Chinese government will broaden residents’ overseas investment channels. One of the measures is to allow some financial institutions to invest on behalf of clients that may include Germany And Japan, including overseas markets. According to Li Fu’an, director of CBRC’s business innovation regulatory cooperation department, the Chinese government will continue to expand the QDII project this year and is now conducting inspections on several countries. Late last year, the China Banking Regulatory Commission announced that under the agreement reached with the UK regulators, Chinese commercial banks will be able to invest on behalf of clients in the UK market. Meanwhile, the CBRC also said it has reached an agreement with the regulatory authorities in the United States to sign a similar agreement that would allow China’s commercial banks to offer QDII products to U.S. securities.
