爱·摩·福斯特是二十世纪上半叶英国著名的小说家,他一生只发表了六部小说。《天使不敢涉足的地方》和《看得见风景的房间》分别是他的第一部和第三部小说,由于都有以意大利作为背景的部分,他们被合称为“意大利小说”。作者对英国人中产阶级的现状感到不满,并寄希望于意大利,希望意大利自由和浪漫的文化氛围能改变英国人刻板,压抑的生活方式,放弃对海外民族的偏见,能和不同文化、不同阶级的人平等和睦的相处。
Aaron Foster, a famous English novelist in the first half of the twentieth century, has only published six novels in his life. “The place where the angels dared not get involved” and the “room where the scenery was seen” were his first and third novels, respectively, and because of the background of Italy, they were collectively referred to as the “Italian novel ”.
