新中国建立后外国经济史这门学科主要是由教学的需要带动发展起来的。五十年代,部分综合性大学的经济系和财经院校先后开设外国经济史课程,侧重近现代部分,配备了为数不多的教师。当时,他们的主要力量放在教学和各自编写教材上,还说不上对外国经济史进行深入的研究工作。1961年高教部与中宣部成立文科教材编选计划机构,组织中国人民大学、北大、武大、南开、吉大、辽大、河北大学等校的外国经济史教师十余人集中编写《外国经济史》(近现代部分)的统一教材,历时三年,编成了一部包括三个历史时期(资本主义
After the founding of New China, the discipline of foreign economic history was mainly driven by the needs of teaching. In the 1950s, departments of economics and finance and economics in some comprehensive universities set up courses on foreign economic history one after another, focusing on the modern part and equipped with a small number of teachers.
