A report recently provided by the relevant departments of the State Statistics Bureau has analyzed the basic characteristics of China’s housing consumer market and concluded that starting housing consumption and increasing housing investment at this stage will be conducive to stimulating rapid economic growth. The report argues that the “cold and heat” of residential consumption restricts “reduction and increase” of residential investment. In 1997, the area of residential sales increased by 15.9%, much lower than the vacancy increase of 23.7%.
