[Atomic Energy Newsweek, United States, February 7, 1983, p. 2] On January 31, 1983, President Reagan submitted a budget of 1984 billion U.S. dollars for the fiscal year 1984. The budget requires revenue of US$659.7 billion and a final deficit of US$188.8 billion. In Reagan’s budget, both the Department of Energy and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s budget have declined from the previous year. The Department of Energy’s budget for fiscal year 1984 required an authorized budget of 11.9 billion, which is 7% less than the estimate for fiscal year 1983.
