Partial root-zone drying (PRD) is considered as a water-saving irrigation method that can improve the water use efficiency of many crops. This study was carried out in two semi-arid potato planting areas of Gansu and Inner Mongolia in China. The effects of conventional irrigation and furrow irrigation on the yield and water use efficiency of potato were compared. The results showed that there was a significant difference in potato yield due to the difference in climatic and soil conditions between the two experimental sites. However, there was no significant difference in the yield of PRD50 treatment (alternate ditch irrigation, the amount of irrigation water is 1/2 of the experience irrigation amount) compared with the conventional irrigation treatment (C100, empirical irrigation amount), and the water use efficiency Significantly increased. Research shows that using a reasonable irrigation method can save water while keeping the output unchanged. In addition, in the drought-prone areas, the selection of suitable varieties, while the use of plastic film technology to increase the yield of potato has an important role.
