This article discusses the use of gamma ray spectrometry logging in carbonate formations. Because gamma ray spectrometry logs help to delineate lithology, these curves can help solve complex contrast problems. In addition, using natural gamma-ray spectroscopy logs in low-porosity or fractured carbonate reservoirs that do not generally solve the problem with normal well logs, it is possible to make a new assessment of intervals previously thought to be non-productive. The article lists site examples used throughout the United States. The qualitative use of gamma ray spectrometry logging is readily observed in carbonate formations. The topics discussed in this paper include: Comparing complex structural comparisons and stratigraphic comparisons with natural gamma-ray logging curves and plotting the results of the comparisons, followed by a detailed discussion of natural gamma-ray spectroscopy logging in identifying carbonate production layers Uses, and many common well logs often miss such production layers.
