在一般读者看来,赫尔曼·麦尔维尔的第二部小说《奥穆》只是一则关于南海捕鲸人的故事。而笔者认为,它其实是一部含义深广、意蕴丰富、主题鲜明的作品,不仅写出了捕鲸人独特的性格,而且描述了他们对待土著岛民的态度、行为方式和文化观念,建构了一种反映19世纪40年代南太平洋流浪水手们独有生活情趣和精神世界的动态身份的叙事。本文拟以小说的导读性《前官》为切入点,结合具体的文本分析着重考察作品的文化内涵,进而审视叙述者的动态性文化身份建构和种族意识。
To the average reader, Herman Murrell’s second novel, Omo, is just a story about the whalers in the South China Sea. The author believes that it is actually a deep meaning, rich in meaning and vivid theme, not only wrote the unique character of the whale whales, but also described their attitudes towards indigenous islanders, behavior and cultural ideas, the construction of A narrative that reflects the dynamic identity of the South Pacific wandering sailors in the 1840s and their spiritual identity. This article intends to use the introductory “front officer” of the novel as a starting point, and then analyzes the cultural connotation of the work combining with specific text analysis, and then examines the dynamic cultural identity construction and racial awareness of the narrator.
