前言中国古代城市的平面形态有一个很明显的特点是单岸城市。一般而言,这已经成为中国传统文化的一个特点。可是我们知道,任何特点都有其特定的临界条件。如果两个单岸城市仅仅隔着一条水道毗邻着发展,其空间形态显然比互不相干的两个城市之和要复杂得多。宋代的鄂州和汉阳正是一个能够说明这一问题的极好例证。这两个城市在后世分别成为一个统一城市的两大城区,即武汉三镇
Preface An obvious feature of the planar morphology of ancient Chinese cities is the single-bank city. In general, this has become a feature of Chinese traditional culture. However, we know that any feature has its own specific criticality. If two single-bank cities were developed adjacent to each other only by a watercourse, the spatial configuration was clearly more complicated than the sum of two unrelated cities. Ezhou and Hanyang in the Song Dynasty were an excellent illustration of this problem. These two cities later become the two major urban areas of a unified city, namely, the three towns of Wuhan
