In many developing countries, official reports of polio numbers often do not reflect the true nature of the disease. For example, the Ministry of Health estimates that only one out of every 15 cases of polio reported to the health authorities, polio is considered to be a problem in developed countries because of the poor reporting of the epidemic. It is said that the incidence of paralytic polio may increase due to the drop in infant mortality. However, surveys in developing countries that have infant mortality rates in excess of 100 per 1,000 in India (eight to 10 times those in North and North Europe) indicate that paralytic polio is a serious problem in many developing countries.
