U.S. defense budget cuts. Will greatly limit the avionics designers to improve the current work of the tactical fighter platform. Fortunately, the integration of existing sensor systems can improve the performance of the fighter platform, although this integration does not reduce costs. For a few new platforms planned for the next 10 years, the cost is a major issue. These new platforms with new solutions and technologies enable the multi-functional integration of avionics devices, broadening the scope of mission flexibility and increasing the chances of reducing equipment costs. This article discusses how best-of-breed electronic warfare and weapon system integration can make existing systems perform better, and has tremendous potential for developing light, low cost, “dedicated” avionics payloads.
