Using a semiconductor fiber ring laser, a novel method for the all optical wavelength conversion based on dual pump four wave mixing (FWM) in a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) is demonstrated. For the input signal with different wavelengths, only one external pump is needed. This scheme can simplify the dual pump FWM in SOA and has nearly constant conversion efficiency and signal to noise ratio (SNR) over 50nm range of wavelength shifts.
