The study about the prevalence rate (PR ) and the risk factors of diabetes mellitus (DM ) in 241 teachers at primary and secondary schools in comparison with 1257 workers showed that the PR of DM in the teachers was four times compared with that in the workers. The PR of DM in the old subjects (≥45 years old ) was 11.6 times more than that in the young subjeots (<45 years old ). These indicate that the risk of being DM in mental labors is bigger than that in physical labors and aging is the risk factor of DM. Results also showed the percentage of the teachers with obesity or hypertension was higher than that of ’the workers- The body mass index, triglyceride and mean blood pressure of the DM patients were significantly high. The findings suggest that the PR of DM increases with obesity, hypertension and hyperlipemia.
