Objective: To observe the changes of platelet parameters in children with Kawasaki disease (KD) and to explore its role in the pathogenesis of coronary artery disease (CAL). Methods: The acute Kawasaki disease patients admitted from January 2013 to June 2014 were selected as the observation group (n = 42). According to the results of echocardiography, children with Kawasaki disease were divided into two groups: CAL group (n = 24) and No CAL group (n = 18). The age matched healthy children (n = 40) were used as the control group. The PLT, MPV and PDW of each group were compared. Results: Compared with the control group, the PLT in observation group was significantly increased, MPV and PDW were significantly decreased (all P <0.05). There was no significant difference in PLT, MPV and PDW between KA group and CAL group. Conclusion: Platelet parameters of PLT, MPV and PDW can help diagnose KD, but can not predict the occurrence of CAL.
