The Niger Delta is Nigeria’s most abundant natural resource. There are large reserves of oil and gas in the area, as well as vast forests, good agricultural land and abundant fish stocks. Despite its enormous natural and human resources base, the potential for sustained development in the region remains unmounted and its future is threatened by environmental degradation and deteriorating economic conditions, however, the current policies and measures do not attach importance to these situations . 25 years of oil development has not brought great benefits to the region. Resource utilization decisions are being affected by underdevelopment, poor sanitation, stagnant development of agricultural productivity, limited urban opportunities, rapid population growth and unclear ownership. By studying various aspects of environmental issues in order to identify priorities and to propose alternative approaches to the management of sustainable development in the IMCAM, this article seeks to move beyond the existing emotional anthropogenic causes of environmental degradation Point of view and move forward.
